Surprise proposal on the beach at The Marram in Montauk, Long Island — on one knee at the edge of the surf

Propose at The Marram

A surprise proposal on the sand below The Marram’s dunes — barefoot-luxury Montauk at its quietest. Planned with you in secret, and captured the second it happens.

The Marram · Montauk, Long Island

Why The Marram?

The Marram is Montauk stripped back to what matters — weathered wood, dune grass, and a quiet stretch of ocean beach. For a proposal, that simplicity is the whole point.

Dunes, grass, and open sand. The resort sits behind the dunes, so the beach feels tucked away from the road and the town — a natural stage with the surf as the soundtrack. Every photo below is from a real proposal on this beach.

An easy cover story. A weekend at the resort, an afternoon walk down to the water. Nobody questions a couple wandering toward the surf — and a photographer on a Montauk beach raises no eyebrows at all.

Light that does the work. Late-afternoon sun over the dunes gives this beach a warm, hazy glow, with the resort’s shingled roofs behind you for the portraits after the yes.

How It Works

You bring the ring. I’ll be waiting by the dunes.

A surprise proposal only happens once — so we plan it like a film shoot, down to the minute, and then I disappear until it’s over.

01

We plan it together — by text or call

You text me the plan: the spot on the beach, the timing, and the signal that tells me the question is coming. We pick exactly where you’ll stop — and where I’ll be waiting. Your partner suspects nothing.

02

I’m in place — discreet and ready

I arrive early and settle in along the beach like any other visitor. When the moment comes, I capture it as it happens — the knee, the reaction, the yes — then step in for a few portraits while it’s all still fresh.

03

You get a beautiful edited gallery

Your edited gallery — ready to relive, share with family and friends, and post the announcement everyone’s been waiting for.

Good to know: The Marram is a small, quiet resort — when we plan your proposal, we’ll pick the timing together so the beach is at its emptiest and the moment stays just between the two of you.

Questions

Before you ask — the answers

How much does proposal photography at The Marram cost?

Surprise proposal photography is $650 flat — that covers planning the moment with you beforehand, discreet coverage as it happens, celebratory portraits after the yes, and a full edited gallery. Engagement sessions are also $650.

Will my partner know a photographer is there?

No. Scott stays completely discreet — positioned along the beach like any other visitor — until after she says yes. Then, if you'd like, we can take a few celebratory portraits together.

When is the best time to propose at The Marram?

Late afternoon, when the sun drops over the dunes and the beach empties out. The gallery on this page was photographed in that light.
